On 9 May, a conference celebrating 30th anniversary of Jean Monnet Programme entitled, "Bringing Jean Monnet Back: Past, Present and Future", was held at the International Studies Hall, Korea University. It was co-hosted by various Jean Monnet Centres, association and module programme in Korea including Korea University, Seoul National University, Yonsei University and Hankuk University of Foreign Studies among others. The event was co-organised by the KU-KIEP-SBS Centre and Nordic-Benelux Center of Korea University and sponsored by the EU Delegation to the Republic of Korea.
Starting with the opening address by Professor Sung-Hoon Park, the Executive Director of KU-KIEP-SBS EU Centre of Korea University, and the congratulatory remarks by His Excellency Dr. Michael Reiterer of EU Delegation, the Jean Monnet Roundtable discussion encompassing the idea of regional integration and cooperation advocated by Jean Monnet and the reflection of the idea in the past, present and future took place.
With the interesting contributions from diverse experts and academics in the European affairs, the conference covered a wide range of topics such as; Jean Monnet and the idea of connectivity, Brexit, peacebuilding in Northeast Asia, economic cooperation in Northeast Asia, perspective from the Media, Role of the EU on the Korean peninsula and Northeast Asia, Jean Monnet Centres and European studies in Korea, youth mobility and community building and new ideas and tasks for cooperation in Asia.
Following a brief award ceremony rewarding the winners of the UCC Contest 2019, Prof. JinTeak Chung, the President of Korea University, provided us with a warm closing remark.
