The lecture titled “IKEA’s Sustainability Strategy” took place in Room #115 of the Korea University’s International Studies Hall on October 17th, 2024. The lecture covered IKEA's ambitious goals, including its goal on reducing carbon emissions across its value chain, and sourcing sustainable materials. Through innovative approaches like circular design and the use of recycled materials, IKEA aims to minimize its environmental footprint while creating positive impacts for communities worldwide, to create a better everyday life for the many. 

In his opening remarks, Professor Jae-Seung Lee, Director of the Ilmin International Relations Institute, emphasized the significance of sustainability in today's global economy and how it intersects with corporate responsibility. He highlighted IKEA as an exemplary case of sustainable management, noting the company’s unique efforts to balance profitability with environmental stewardship. 

The lecture on IKEA’s Sustainability Strategy sparked important discussions regarding key topics such as the taskforce on nature-related financial disclosures, ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) strategies, and the criteria for evaluating IKEA's climate change model. These inquiries underscore the increasing significance of sustainability in corporate practices and the essential role of transparent reporting in fostering responsible decision-making. As we move forward, it is clear that integrating these frameworks will be crucial in addressing the challenges posed by climate change and promoting a sustainable and resilient future.
