Professor Sae Won Chung from Pukyoung National University came for the lecture in this course. The main topic of session 15 of <Contemporary Europe> was education and training policies of the European Union. He first gave an overview of Europe’s education and multilingualism policies. The first section, titled "Education and Multilingualism," discussed the importance of multilingualism in Europe. The section also highlighted the challenges faced by multilingual societies and the need for effective language policies. In the next section, “Education and Training Policies," Professor provided an overview of the eight areas of education and training policies including early childhood education and care, primary and secondary education, vocational education and training, higher education, adult learning, digital education, school leadership, and teacher education. The section discussed the importance of each area and provides examples of policies and initiatives that have been implemented in Europe to support them. He also talked about the benefits of investing in education and training for individuals and society as a whole. He emphasized the positive impact that education and training can have on employment, economic growth, social inclusion, and personal development.

Professor Chung advocated for the role of EU policy in supporting education and training systems in member countries. He gave various examples on the EU's education and training policies and initiatives, including the European Education Area, the European Skills Agenda, and the Erasmus+ program, which were not without challenges and criticisms. Moreover, Language Policies and Multilingualism section provided a more detailed discussion of language policies in Europe. He explained about the importance of multilingualism in Europe and the challenges faced by multilingual societies and provided examples of language policies and initiatives that have been implemented in Europe to support multilingualism.
