The European Union and Democracy

On 6th April, the EU Society conducted its second meeting, presented by Maja Ottersen Miltsov. The first session provided an overview of the EU's formation by examining the history of the EU's evolution. During the subsequent session, she stressed the EU's role based on super nationalism. The lecture moved on to an analysis of the role of democracy in EU member states. Students addressed the EU's future role and how to safeguard democracy outside the EU system. 

Several students discussed problems of self-identity and nationalism concerning the EU, and students held divergent views on democracy and the EU's future direction. Although the EU's capacity for political control is limited compared to its economic influence, it continues to form alliances with the world's major actors, including growing nations and regional organizations. It tries to guarantee that these partnerships are founded on mutual interests and advantages geared toward resolving problems and fostering global understanding.
