Zeitenwende in German Foreign Policy & Estonia’s Ties with North Korea 

Two presentations were given on May 18. In the first presentation, Kimon outlined the history of German traditional foreign policy and the reasons behind these policies, including the two world wars, the Demilitarized society, and Constitutional restrictions. The features of German Foreign Policy and Zeitenwende were then thoroughly analyzed. He also stressed the New German Foreign Policy's execution and challenges. In the second presentation, Erko discussed how currently, only France and Estonia have not established diplomatic ties with North Korea in the EU. Nonetheless, private actors in Estonia have maintained brief connections with North Korea in the mid-twentieth century. We learned that in general, the two countries maintained a period of friendship, but their ties will remain rare-business. Although North Korea is not always as isolated as it seems, official and diplomatic relations may still only be possible in theory.
