Dr. Heungchong Kim from KIEP will lead session 7 and session 11. Dr. Kim is the head of the Korea Institute for International Economic Policy (KIEP) and an expert in the EU economy. In this session, he lectured about the EU's common commercial policy(CCP) and its implications for Korea-EU FTA.
The first half of this session was a holistic overview of the EU's status as a global trade power. He covered the EU's common commercial policy in-depth, from its background, legal framework to the European Commission's role in the policy. The latter half of the session focused on the EU's trade policy tools. They include the EU's common external tariff, preferential trade agreements, non-tariff barriers, and trade defenses (i.e., trade remedies). Finally, based on what he taught, Dr. Kim explained the development of the KOR-EU FTA: the key merchandises in the trade agreement and the changing trade flow between Korea and the EU.
