As part of the Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence project, our Centre organized a summer course titled <Contemporary Europe> for KU undergraduate students. It is a team-teaching course hosting two Jean Monnet Chairs (Prof. Sung-Hoon Park and Jae-Seung Lee) and Dr. Heung-Jong Kim, President of the Korea Institute for International Economic Policy (KIEP), and a few more experts.
In the first session, Prof. Jae-Seung Lee delivered an overall introduction of the course. To improve understanding of extensive issues of the European Union, he explained the general backgrounds of the union. The session covered how the EU was established from a historical perspective. He also highlighted its specialty as a multilateral organization by mentioning various related sub-institutions, treaties, and trade systems. Students actively asked questions regarding general information on the EU and a lively discussion commenced during the comments portion.
