As a part of Summer School course of <European Economics,> a special lecture was held, cohosted by Jean Monnet EU Centre, KU Nordic-Benelux Centre and GPAS-Europe. The session was open to the public and many participants who are interested in European geopolitics attended the lecture. Two special guests, the EU ambassador to ROK, H.E. Maria Castillo-Fernandez and a former Korean ambassador to the EU and Belgium, H.E. Hyong-zhin Kim each gave a lecture about Europe. H.E. Maria Castillo-Fernandez first gave a brief lecture on European Neighbourhood Policy (ENP) and its implementation during Ukraine war. The policy is becoming more significant in the European continent as the war continues and solidarity is needed among neighbors. The former Korean ambassador presented Korea’s renewed strategy toward EU and NATO. He emphasized the attention of Yoon’s government to NATO and increasing security cooperation with EU. The role of the EU to Korea is critical, especially in regard to North-South relations. The session also had a Q&A session. Students asked a question on multiple subjects, from Korea-NATO partnership to the effects of US-China competition to South Korea.
