The Jean Monnet EU Centre of Excellence receives academic papers on Europe-Asia connectivity for its Junior Research Fellowship Program. Daniel Köllner (Ph.D candidate at Ruhr-University Bochum) was recognized for the research on " Connecting Socio-Economic EU- and ASEAN-Models for Inclusive Interregional Trade-Integration". This paper reveals that a balanced socio-economic ASEAN-EU model must consider far more factors than the explanatory approaches of neo-classical trade theory. Norms, values, but also political framework conditions are of fundamental importance in order to develop an inclusive interregional model. However, in order to arrive at a common model at all, many small, achievable measures are necessary to better connect the regions and to create the basis for the construction of a common EU-ASEAN identity, leading to more comprehensive, formalized agreements that are easier to adopt.
