-The Data Journalism has been expanding the scope of the traditional

Journalism and putting in question the ethics of journalism.

-The core problem here is after all the traditional collision between

freedom of expression (media freedom) and privacy (personal data

protection).

-In the ECtHR Satamedia case, the ECtHR judged that the prohibition

of data provision service did not violate Art. 10 ECHR (freedom of

expression) because that service was out of journalism.

- In the CJEU Satamedia case, the CJEU judged that the question of

whether or not the data provision service in question was within the scope of journalism was to be determined by the Finnish court.

-The Satamedia cases have called into question the traditional concept of journalism. Data society has been changing the nature of

journalism and these European cases give hints to Japanese

journalism as well.
