Dear all,
Our partner in Japan, Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence at Keio University, launched on 8 April 2017.
The Speaker was Hirokatsu Kato, Former Professor at Nihon University, Faculty of Law.
These are the points given by JMCoE at Keio University.
The UK Supreme Court Miller Judgment denied binding nature of the referendum and maintained the supremacy of parliamentary
sovereignty.
-King’s prerogative power to conclude treaties is subject to
parliamentary sovereignty. For treaties affecting domestic law to be
valid in the UK, the Parliament must ratify them and legislate.
-The Government White Paper proposes new partnership between
the UK and the EU.
-Some EU rules are considered to be transformed into UK law.
-Implication: EU rules’ influence will possibly remain in UK law.
Japan should cooperate with the EU in responding to Brexit
