-Now it is not democracy but rule of law that is in crisis in Europe. -The EU Commission decided that Polish judicial reform could be a systematic threat to “rule of law” and proposed a sanction against Poland. -The possibility of the sanction was very low, because of the unanimity procedure in the European Council, where Poland and Hungary help each other. -In this case it is apparent that it is quite difficult to sanction violations of fundamental values of the EU. -Hungary or Poland do not want to get out of the EU, because of their dependence on it from an economic point of views, but the EU should consider some other measure to sanction their fundamental values violations such as to decrease the amounts of subsidies, etc. |
