UCNZ invited Gerhardt Thiedemann, German Ambassador to New Zealand, to the UC. This event was held at Undercroft 101, University of Canterbury on 3 March 2017. UC invited 43 audiences to this event.
Gerhardt Thiedemann spoke for 40 mins to an audience of students, academics and members of the public. His presentation was followed by a very engaging and interesting Q&A session with the audience. Gerhardt Thiedemann focused much of his speech on how the European integration and the importance of the up-coming elections in France and the impact that Brexit has had. He also spoke about the role of immigrants in Germany. He painted a positive picture of the role that immigrants were playing. He highlighted the fact that Germany has an aging population and that such an influx of younger people has been very beneficial to the nation as a whole.
