Teacher's Workshop on the European Union from 13th to 14th November 2015

KU-KIEP-SBS EU Centre hosted Teacher’s Workshop on the European Union from 13 to 14 November 2015. Seventeen teachers were invited from eleven prestige high schools. The Centre developed this workshop to enhance their understanding of EU’s economy, history, institutions & politics, culture, social issues, etc.

During a two-day program, seven experts from each area were invited to the workshop and delivered lectures on their specialties:

(1) History of European Integration by Prof. Sung-Hoon Park (Jean Monnet Chair Professor, Korea University),

(2) Institutions and Politics of the European Union by Prof. Sung-Won Yoon (The University of Suwon),

(3) EU’s Social Issue by Ms. Jiyoung Hong (Senior Reporter, SBS) and by Prof. Hongsik Cho (Soongsil University)

(4) EU’s Single Market & Single Currency by Dr. Heungchong Kim (Senior Research Fellow, KIEP)

(5) Arts & Culture of Europe by Prof. Changrhyong Oh(Korea University)

(6) Special Lecture by Prof. Jongbeob Kim (Daejeon University)

In the evening of the first day, Prof. Jongpub Kim gave a special lecture on European food and wine. Teachers were very interested in the lecture and it was a great opportunity for all to understand the European gastronomie culture.

After taking comprehensive courses on EU, a roundtable discussion on “Teaching EU in Korea: Realities and Tasks” was led.

The workshop successfully ended. The teachers who participated in the program said it was very good opportunity to learn and know about the EU. They said they would definitely recommend this program to their collegues.
