Teacher's Workshop on the European Union from 11th to 12th August 2014
The KU-KIEP-SBS EU Centre hosted Teacher’s Workshop on the European Union from 11 to 12 August 2014. Fifteen teachers were invited from twelve prestige high schools.
During a two-day program, five experts from each area were invited to the workshop and delivered lectures on their specialties:
(1) History of European Integration by Prof. Sung-Hoon Park (Jean Monnet Chair Professor, Korea University),
(2) Institutions and Politics of the European Union by Prof. Jae-Seung Lee (Korea University),
(3) EU’s Social Issue by Prof. Sung-Won Yoon (University of Suwon),
(4) EU’s Single Market & Single Currency by Dr. Heung Chong Kim (Vice President, KIEP)
(5) Arts & Culture of Europe by Mr. Changho Han (Film Critic).
A roundtable discussion was made before the closing ceremony on the topic “Teaching EU in Korea: Realities and Tasks. Prof. Junghwan Yoo (Cheongju University), Prof. Myeon Hoei Kim (Hankuk University of Foreign Studies) and Ms. Jiyoung Hong (Senior Reporter, SBS) were invited as panel discussants and all teachers actively participated in the discussion.
In the evening of the first day, Prof. Jae-Seung Lee gave a special lecture on wine. He explained not only about the European wine culture but also how to select good wine and how to enjoy wine. Teachers were very interested in the lecture and it was a great opportunity for all to understand the European wine culture.
