The third session of the EU Society at Korea University on April 9, 2024, featured an engaging presentation by Giulia Monferrini on Eurovision. Giulia provided a thorough overview of the iconic international song contest, tracing its origins, evolution, and significance. She discussed Eurovision's history, including its original rules and founding members, the recent inclusion of Australia, and how the contest has changed over time in terms of format, participating countries, and notable winners. Giulia also highlighted the intersection of politics and Eurovision, discussing the disqualification of Russia in 2022 and the inclusion of Israel in 2024. Her presentation challenged the notion of Eurovision being unfamiliar territory by revealing its widespread cultural impact and global viewership, concluding with the provocative question, "Do you think that Eurovision is a successful attempt at lasting peace?" 

The subsequent debate acknowledged Eurovision's role as a unifying force in Europe, transcending national borders and bringing people together in celebration. Participants noted that while it is primarily a competition, Eurovision also offers insights into the political landscape of participating countries. For example, the recent trend of countries singing in their own languages reflects a resurgence of nationalism across the continent. 

Despite its competitive nature, Eurovision fosters a sense of shared identity and cultural exchange among nations. The session concluded with members expressing their enjoyment of Eurovision videos and reminiscing about legendary performances, with even those previously unfamiliar with the contest becoming captivated and eagerly anticipating the upcoming event in May.
