The fourth session of the EU Society at Korea University, held on April 30, 2024, began with a welcoming greeting from the leadership, marking the return of members after midterms. The session featured a presentation by Aslaug Petursdottir titled "Gender Equality in Europe - Bridging the Gap: Strides and Struggles." Aslaug discussed the definition of gender equality and feminism, highlighting Iceland's top-ranked status for gender equality due to factors such as political representation, legislation, parental leave policies, education, activism, and cultural attitudes. She noted Finland's pioneering role in granting women the right to vote and examined ongoing gender disparities within the EU, despite advancements in labor market participation and education. Public perception was addressed, revealing that 69% of Europeans view the gender gap as a serious issue, and Aslaug pointed out restrictive abortion laws in some European nations, emphasizing the need for continuous efforts to combat gender inequality. 

The discussion that followed was prompted by two questions: "What is it like in your country?" regarding gender equality, and "Have you ever experienced gender inequality and would like to share your experience?" Female members shared their personal encounters, revealing a common theme of misunderstanding feminism and equality.

Despite diverse backgrounds, their experiences resonated with shared struggles, such as the fear of walking alone at night, using keys as makeshift weapons, and facing catcalls. Members also noted barriers to participation in male-dominated sports and the invalidation of women's concerns by male lawmakers and peers. This global perspective led to a reflective question: could gender equality be achievable within the next 300 years?
