The EU Society's second session at Korea University on April 2, 2024, featured a presentation by Jacob Davis titled "NATO: An Out-Dated Organization or Relevant Security Apparatus? Should European nations be contributing more?" 

Davis provided a detailed overview of NATO's historical context, its role in collective defense and crisis management, and the political coordination it fosters in the Euro-Atlantic region. He discussed the financial burdens on member states, sovereignty issues, and tensions from NATO's expansion, particularly concerning Russia. Davis highlighted Putin's view of NATO expansion as a threat and addressed Trump's criticisms of European defense spending. He also examined the potential implications of Ukraine joining NATO, especially concerning Russian security interests and access to warm water ports. 

The ensuing discussion built on previous conversations about U.S. elections and budget reallocations, focusing on the potential impact of U.S. troop withdrawals from Ukraine and Europe. Members expressed concerns about European security and Ukraine's vulnerability to Russian aggression if American troops departed. Doubts about Putin's intentions, especially with Russia seeking weapons from North Korea, prompted reassessments of Russian motives. 

The discussion also touched on the tensions between Taiwan and China, considering the implications for regional stability. The session concluded with an invitation for members to attend the next session, which would feature the lighter topic of Eurovision.
