The EU Centre hosted a 2023 Academic Essay Contest for undergraduate and graduate students, attracting a considerable number of submissions on the topic: “Enhancing Sustainable Development Partnership between the EU and Korea”. Applications were open from March to June 30, 2023, and on the March 21, 2024, the Centre awarded the top three works.
The first-place prize was awarded to Choo Hyeona and Shin Jungwon from the Media and Communication Department for their paper titled "Enhancing E-mobility Development through Subnational Diplomatic Partnership – Partnering Seoul with Oslo for the Next ELAN." Their essay proposed a subnational diplomatic collaboration between Seoul and Oslo to enhance sustainable mobility development in both Korea and Norway, drawing inspiration from Norway's ELAN project. In second place, Fa In Yang from the Department of Public Administration presented the essay "Unveiling of the Climate Implementation Gap between Korea and the EU over a Decade," analysing the reasons behind South Korea's lagging climate performance despite its partnership with the EU. Lastly, Sunin Michael Baek from the School of Mechanical Engineering won third place with the essay "Renewable Energy and IP: The Role of EU-Korea Science and Technology Cooperation in Advancing Sustainable Development Goals and Strengthening Partnership," exploring the synergy between renewable energy and intellectual property within EU-Korea cooperation.
The Centre congratulated all participants for their hard work and insightful contributions, fostering a stimulating academic environment for dialogue and knowledge exchange.
