The second session of the course was about European integration, led by the esteemed professor Sunghoon Park, who is the executive of the EU Centre of Excellence at Korea University. The EU began as an economic union, the coal and steel industry being the core part of the deal. Germany, France, and Benelux countries were the founding members of the European Union that went through the enlargement process throughout next decades. The integration was intended to expand from economic union to political and ultimately, the union would share the common defense policy. The history of the EU had been a history of integration, which could be summarized as deepening, widening, and enlargement.
