Professor Lee’s lecture on geopolitics provided a comprehensive overview of the historical and political relations between France and Germany, highlighting their immense cooperation within and outside of the European Union. The document covers the period from the Franco-Prussian War in 1870 to the present day, with a particular focus on the post-World War II period and the role of the European Union in promoting Franco-German cooperation.

 

He began by discussing the historical context of Franco-German relations, including the Franco-Prussian War, World War I, and World War II. It then moves on to discuss the post-World War II period, including the establishment of the European Coal and Steel Community, the Elysee Treaty, and the Maastricht Treaty. Furthermore, Professor also discussed the role of the Franco-German reconciliation committee in promoting cooperation between the two countries, as well as the various economic and political initiatives that have been undertaken to strengthen the relationship between France and Germany. These initiatives include the establishment of the Eurozone, the Schengen Agreement, and the Common Agricultural Policy. He constantly emphasized the importance of Franco-German cooperation in promoting peace and stability in Europe, highlighting the many benefits that have resulted from this cooperation. He also discussed some of the challenges that have arisen in the relationship between France and Germany, including differences in economic policy and the ongoing debate over the future of the European Union.
