Dr. Heungkoo Lee, PhD, Korea University participated in the international conference “New Geopolitics in Eurasia and Northeast Asia” held on 10 July 2023 at the Senate Hall of Romania–America University (RAU), Bucharest. The conference brought together scholars, diplomats, and policy experts to discuss evolving geopolitical dynamics across Europe and Asia. The program included an opening ceremony, keynote speeches, and a high-level roundtable discussion, following a luncheon reception and registration.
In the keynote session, leading experts addressed topics such as the Ukraine war and Eurasian transformation, NATO–Asia-Pacific security connectivity, and regional security challenges. During the roundtable session, Dr. Lee delivered a presentation titled “Energy Security, Energy Transition, and the Future of Mobility,” analyzing Romania’s low-carbon energy transition, energy security challenges, and the geopolitical implications of the Russia–Ukraine war and U.S.–China competition. His presentation also examined Romania’s automotive industry amid the global shift from internal combustion engines to electric vehicles, highlighting employment challenges, skills training needs, and policy responses related to battery supply chains and critical resources. The conference provided valuable insights into cross-regional connectivity between Europe and Asia and identified new research agendas at the intersection of geopolitics, energy transition, and industrial transformation.
